Chronic Stress

Chronic Stress is a term used when a person is in a consistent sense of feeling pressured and overwhelmed for a long period of time. This can contribute to overwhelm and debilitation.

How does Surrey Centre for Nutrition work with Chronic Stress?

Stress often stems from a situation or circumstance known as a stressor which can only sometimes be mitigated through lifestyle change, and sometimes is unavoidable. Although we at the SCgN work primarily to support a client through modification of diet and nutrition, we also often advise on lifestyle changes that may need to be made to reduce the level of exposure a client has to stressors where possible.

Our key role however is to determine how we can help that client balance and mediate their stress repose to the stressors present. Through analysis of your current dietary patterns we can identify if there are any dietary triggers such as blood sugar imbalance or excessive use of stimulants, poor sleep, rest, relaxation or exercise that may be participating in an increased response to the stressors present. We can also identify any nutritional deficiencies or insufficiencies in nutrients which are specifically important to moderate stress response.

We will often advise undertaking adrenal stress testing and cortisol response testing to understand how your hormones are controlling your stress response, and how your adrenal glands (responsible for the production of stress hormones) are functioning. Depending on the stage of stress we may also look at thyroid testing to ensure that prolonged exposure to stress has not had an impact on thyroid hormone production. We will apply nutritional and lifestyle protocols to address any imbalances identified in the above to support our clients to a point whereby the physical manifestations of stress are balanced, and to help prevent further systemic impact from the stress to which you are exposed.
